Wall Art - A Guide To Fine Wall Art
Actually, except for the subject matter found in contemporary and the most recent modern wall art, it has not changed all that much. The curve of a womans shoulder, or the subtle shadings in her skin tone that the artist somehow managed to capture in a painting are still as beautiful to look at today as they were hundreds of years ago.
A childs look of wonder as he or she looks at a Christmas tree, or gazes upon the Nativity scene, captured on canvas as only the great American painter Norman Rockwell could, can still bring the viewer to tears, or at least give him or her one heck of a lump in the throat. And, the Currier and Ives prints make us long, if only for a minute, to actually celebrate a Victorian Christmas.
Trends have changed, and art does tend to follow them, to some extent. You do not see many black velvet paintings of Elvis or tigers or whatever else used to be painted on there hanging in ones living room now. (And, depending on your taste, you are either happy or sad to see that one go). But, you might see an oil painting or an acrylic painting of The King in someones family room or rec room.
Political correctness has influenced the art world, both in subject matter and in the rules of display. While it is admirable that the desire not to offend is there, unfortunately, an entire generation may be missing out on some of the loveliest works of wall art that have been created, simply because they depict life as it was during that particular artists life.
The fine wall art to be displayed as a part of ones home decor is still a personal choice. One person may choose to own the latest, most modern pieces of art and sculpture, while another may continue to display the tried and true pieces that will forever retain their beauty.
This is perfectly fine, because art is meant to be interpreted on an individual basis. You and I may not like the same types of artwork, but I may notice immediately that the piece you have chosen is such an indicator of your personality that that is what I will mention. And, wasnt that the whole purpose of buying that particular piece of artwork to begin with? Yes, it was, and so the goal has been accomplished.
