Just because you work in an office does not mean it has to be stuffy. There are many office decorating ideas that work well while still allowing you to maintain the professionalism and decorum that is necessary.
Artwork can add the individual, personal touch that you want your office to have. You can reveal a little bit of yourself while still remaining within the status quo.
The main thing you have to take into consideration is, of course, the type of office you work in. Some offices will naturally lend themselves to a conventional or expected mode of decoration, however, this does not mean you cant add your personal touches.
A law office is one such example of a place where only one or a few particular decorating styles will work. Most law firms still try to maintain an air of dignity and solemnity, so most likely there will still be a good deal of wood and leather still in use. This is fine, because almost all genres of the art field can offer choices that will fit into this decor.
An oil or acrylic painting will most likely be your best bet. Depending on the finish on your wood and leather, you can decide whether you want to go for bright or muted colors for your art.
The subject, of course, is entirely up to you. You might want to think about where you like to go on vacation or to get away from it all and put up a picture that reminds you of that. This way, if you start feeling stressed, you have something to look at that will help take your mind off your troubles for a few minutes.
If you work in a doctors office, either in the reception area or in an office or cubicle of your own, you want to consider something that will be soothing to both you and the patient. If it is fairly likely that you are going to be the only one seeing it, you might can go for the whimsical or something that reflects your personality, as long as it is in good taste and does not offend.
Contemporary art is well-suited to the modern, glass and steel office buildings that are so prevalent today. The crisp, clean lines that define most of these pieces are just perfect for the light, bright areas that are found in these structures.
