Holiday Decor - Tips & Ideas for Christmas Decorations
You have set out the manger scene, the decorated Christmas tree is in its usual spot, the stockings are hung, and the outside of the house is glowing brightly. Your house is ready for Christmas.
But, then, you walk into the living room or family room and see that painting that, while beautiful in its own right, just does not fit with the home Christmas decor setting. Or, your walls, for whatever reason, are left either completely bare or with minimal decoration throughout the year.
Normally, this is fine. You like the uncluttered feeling that the bare or almost-bare walls give to the room, and the rest of the year that painting works just fine. But, this year, the bare walls and that painting just arent doing it.
If the painting can be removed easily, then do so. If it cant, dont worry. Simply measure the area and then look for an area rug (in a Christmas motif, of course) that will cover the picture. Then, simply fit the rug around the entire picture and frame. Secure it to the back with something that wont damage the frame or backing.
If the picture could be removed, look for an area rug that is fringed. Then, simply mount the rug with something that will not damage the wall or fabric. Holiday decorations can be very simple.
Now, keeping in mind the permanent fixtures in the room (such as furniture and carpets), that must remain in the room, look at the wall or walls that first drew your attention to the fact that something was missing in the way of decorating for Christmas. Now, think about what you can do besides art or paintings.
OK, so the USUAL place for Christmas stockings is SUPPOSED to be on the mantel or in some other proximity to a fireplace. But, they are strictly used for decoration purposes now, theyre not stuffed anymore. Further, your home may not even have a fireplace, and it has been a struggle every year to find someplace to hang the stockings.
Well, now you have a place. Use the smallest hook or nail you have (or, if the stockings are light enough, tape or other fastening material that wont harm either the wall or the fabric) and hang the stockings on the wall. Frame them on three sides with garland that you lay along the mantle or wind around your stairs for added effect.
