Abstract Art - A Helpful Guide To Abstract Art & Paintings
Abstract art might also be defined or described as anything goes art. Abstract art does not even require that a theme or subject be present or even alluded to. However, many forms of this type of art do manage in some way clue in the viewer as to the idea or message that the artist is trying to convey.
Perhaps the best-known abstract artists (although they are by no means the ONLY ones) are Van Gogh, Picasso, and Dali. Their artwork presented subjects in ways that were very different, even unusual.
For all its uniqueness, however, their versions and interpretation of abstract art worked then, and can still work in todays home decor. Van Goghs Starry Night, with its vivid blues, blacks, and yellows is still a very effective piece, especially when displayed in a bedroom. Use the darker colors for the bed coverings and related accessories, and hang curtains, sheers, and valises which match the bold yellows Van Gogh.
The lighter window dressings will reflect window light, and greatly diminish the darkness that you may feel is prevalent in the painting itself. You will be more inclined to notice and appreciate the colors, rather than dwell on the mood.
As mentioned earlier, though, Van Gogh is not the only abstract artist around. Many modern abstract artists have also added their interpretation of our world as we know it today. Modern abstract art tends to be very geometric in design, although there are other designs.
The artwork boasts very clean, very distinct lines and angles. Color is usually very bright and may remain within one area of the spectrum. For instance, a painting may use vivid reds, yellows, and oranges, with black used to accentuate or outline the different shapes. Another painting may use bright greens and blues, with white delineating the shapes and patterns.
No matter what colors, patterns, and shapes are used in abstract art, it is well suited to home decorating. The artwork may provide the only color in a room, or be reflected in the furnishings, wall coverings, and accessories.
The important thing to remember, though, is that the colors are there to use as you wish. So, go bright and bold, and let everything in the room be colorful, or go light, and let the artwork speak for itself. Its your home, and you know what you like, so do it however you wish.
